ICF provides a standard language and framework for the description of health and health-related states. This chapter advances the International Classification of Functioning, Disability, and Health for Children and Youth—ICF-CY (WHO, 2007) as a new framework for guiding psychological assessment, from conceptualization of needs classification for children and youth (ICF-CY) was published in 2007. The ICF integrates the major models of disability. It recognises the role of environmental factors in the creation of disability, as well as the relevance of associated health conditions and their effects. Next, the ICF-CY is applied to assessment and intervention practices of speech-language pathologists.
